Routes and restaurants to enjoy your trip more than ever

Sossusvlei, Namibia

From the moment we said that we were going to travel around the World, people asked us all kinds of questions. Funny that the most extravagant, is also the most frequent. What do you pack when you travel for a year? It’s the million euro question. We are going to give you the answer. The important thing it’s not what you are going to put on, but what you are going to take off. We have already sent home 20 kilos, and counting.

In order to be able to travel even lighter, we have decided not to carry any travelling guide. We have seen them all. From the coldest and most impersonal, those that look like somebody put pieces of other guides together; to the paperback guides, those that have photos from the 70’s and little maps like the ones you find in the pizza restaurant flyer. We also tried the Lonelyplanet ones and similar; those that somebody thought it would be a good idea to sell by the kilo, because they make them the bigger the better. Those are the most successful. They don’t leave anything out, but it is their virtue, also their main flaw. They have so much information in them, absolutely everything, that at the end you don’t really know where to go, eat or sleep. That’s why we decided to leave them behind. They are a dead weight, are boring to read, and you can get the same information in the next tourist office. The worst thing is that they don’t even save you from the most difficult job: deciding what is the best route to see that country given a number of days.

Great Salt Fields, Argentina

So we decided to ask our friends. Some here, some there. The old and the new friends. The ones in Barcelona and the ones we met in our journey. And that is how we organized our trip around the world. From that map where our guests marked their favorite trips, to the laptops that we carry in our backpacks, where we correct our route according to what we are told in each village. Recommendations from all of them, that now are ours.

Kalahari Desert, Namibia

Now it’s our turn to return the favor.

To be continued…
