Africa, after being on a safari in 5 different countries.

Etosha Park, Namibia

Kruger Park, South Africa:

It is the easiest to visit but the least authentic. It is a “do it yourself” safari, driving through set tracks but you cannot even open the windows. At night, you will sleep in modest bungalows with the grill on the backyard as if they were semidetached houses. It is easy to see all kinds of animals except for lions and cheetahs. There are not many. Before going photo-hunting, you can look at he camp map where you can see where the animals where seen the day before, but many times it’s the same.

Etosha Park, Namibia:

It is probably the best of all we saw so far. You can also do it on your own with a rental car, but it is much wilder than the one in South Africa. The scenery is beautiful, especially the “pan”, a semi-dry lagoon that looks like a forgotten sea. Better than go all around it, we recommend you to stay at the Halali Camp. They have a pond that they feed with fresh water. You only have to sit on the stand with a glass of wine, and a blanket if it’s necessary, and wait for the animals to walk in front of your. If it gets dark, that’s not a problem, because they turn the lights on and the show goes on. A very cheap luxury.

Safari by mokoro, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Moremi Park, Botswana:

It is the most luxurious of all, if you can pay for the plane to get to the exclusive lodges, like the Chief Island, but it’s so expensive that it’s not worth it. With a rental car you can reach the wildest part, like the Third Bridge, where it is said that the lions walk around the tents at night. If you like to drive a 4×4 you will enjoy it as an amusement park, especially to get to Chobe Park. The worst part is that may not see anything for a while.

Chobe Park, Botswana:

The most ideal landscape. It has a path that leads you all along the river and turns into the Victoria Falls right on the border between Zimbabwe and Zaire. Although you don’t get to see the falls, the riverside is beautiful, and since you are the one driving, you can get close to all kinds of herds, including the elephants. There are no lions, but there are giant crocodiles.

Manyara Lake, Tanzania:

As in the rest of Tanzania, 99% of tourists go in groups or with a chauffer. Although you can go on your own, the entrance tickets and the camping permits are so expensive that it cost an arm and a leg. So it is better to find a tour operator. This lake has a lush and special scenery, but it’s not indispensable.

Cheetahs, Serengeti, Tanzania

Serengeti Park, Tanzania:

Together with Maasai Mara in Kenya, they form the great plain where mammals, every year undertake the famous migrations in search of fresh pasture. They usually move towards the North in July, to Tanzania in October, but it always depends on the rain. The best option is to organize an individual safari to cross the border following the migrations. It is the park with more animals.
