ATTENTION: be careful when booking a chinese hotel! The price you can find at some western search engines could be much higher than the regular one. Every time we recommend you a Hotel in the Trip Planner we'll tell you where to book your reservation at the cheapest rate possible. It might be a search engine or the hotel website, but you can always be sure that you won't pay more than it's worth.

Hereby we include you some recommendations about Beijing and Shanghai:

Beijing is enormous. That's why we recommend staying in the vicinity of the Forbidden City so that you can walk or bike to most points of interest. If you move around by bike or taxi (they're cheap and more reliable than in other Chinese cities), it won't matter if your hotel is close to a metro stop or not. In the city centre you'll find very decent hotels at reasonable rates, a good thing given the amount of time you'll be spending in Peking.

• Description: in spite of its low price, it's a very respectable 3-star hotel. It's on a peaceful street, in easy walking distance of the Forbidden City.

Shanghai is a city of immense proportions. Hotels in the centre are quite expensive, with rates starting at 150€, but as you move away from the city centre, you can find good hotels at very cheap rates. The Shanghai metro system is superb. You'll want to take advantage of it continually to get from place to place. We therefore also recommend choosing a cheaper hotel somewhat removed from the city centre but close to a metro station.

• Description: while somewhat old and offering only basic services, this hotel is a real bargain given its location. Situated at the end of the famous Bund, it is located in a historical building on the river. The closest metro stop is 15 minutes away, but you can walk to the Bund easily.
