Suggested itinerary: Tibet & Nepal in 15 days for independent travellers

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Walk through the city centre. Night in Kathmandu. 

Day 2: Kathmandu

Visit to Bouddhanath and Swoyambhu Stupa Buddhist Temples. Walk through Durbar Square and Thamel district. Night in Kathmandu. 

Day 3: Pokhara

Transfer by bus to Pokhara, beautiful town placed on the banks of Lake Fewa. Walk through the town. Night in Pokhara. 

Day 4: Pokhara

Trek up Mount Sarangkot in order to have great views of the Himalaya Mountains and the Lake Fewa. Bike tour around the lake. Night in Pokhara. 

Day 5: Kathmandu

Return to Kathmandu by bus. Walk and shopping in the city centre (sportswear is especially cheap). Night in Kathmandu. 

Day 6: Trekking from Sankhu to Nagarkot

Transfer to Sankhu. 3 hours trek from Sankhu to Nagarkot. Walk through Nagarkot city centre. Night in Nagarkot. 

Day 7: Bhaktapur

Transfer to Bhaktapur, one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal. Visit to Durbar Square and the market. Return to Katmandu. Night in Katmandu. 

Day 8: Way to Tibet

Start 4WD route to Tibet, crossing the Friendship Bridge in the China-Nepal border. Night in Nyalam or Zhangmu (depending on how long border formalities take, and how are the traffic conditions). 

Day 9: From Nyalam to Xigatse

Route through the Himalayas, driving at 5,000 metres above sea level, and having great views of the Cho Oyu and the Everest mountains. Night in Xigatse. 

Day 10: From Xigatse to Giantse

Visit to Palkhor Monastery. Transfer to Giantse by 4WD car. Visit to Palchoi Monastery. Night in Giantse. 

Day 11: From Giantse to Lhasa

Transfer from Giantse to Lhasa going through the Turquoise Lake. Arrival in Lhasa. Visit to Norbulinga Palace, Dalai Lama's summer palace. Walk through the city centre. Night in Lhasa. 

Day 12: Lhasa

Visit to Potala Palace, the official Dalai Lama's residence. Visit to Jokhang Temple. Walk through the ancient city centre. Night in Lhasa. 

Day 13: Lhasa

Visit to Deprung Monastery, where you can observe the monks learning dialectical skills. Night in Lhasa. 

Day 14: From Lhasa to Kathmandu

Transfer to Lhasa Airport. Flight to Kathmandu. Walk through the city centre. Night in Kathmandu. 

Day 15: Back home

Flight back home.
