Africa, after being on a safari in 5 different countries.

Lions, Amboseli, Kenya

Lions:
Lion, Serengeti, Tanzania
There is no doubt that they are the kings of the savannah. All day laying down, doing nothing while their females go hunting. And if that wasn’t enough, when he feels the “need of company” and the female is not into it, because she already has a litter from another king, he eats her cubs to be able to impregnate her with his genes. However, not all of them live like kings. When a male has to leave a group to form his own, since they are not good hunters, he might die of starvation. What an end for a sovereign!

Elephants:

There is a reason why their herds are called clans. In the Kilimanjaro, we saw how four of them formed a circle defending a dying baby elephant. They stayed still, but vigilant, each of them looking towards one cardinal point until the baby died. They need to eat, non-stop, for twenty hours a day, but they didn’t move until it was over. In another clan, we saw a bunch of baby elephants learning how to use their trunk, moving them from side to side, trying to find their mouths. It was better than going to the circus.

Elephants, Etosha Park, Namibia

Cheetah:

The fastest of all of the animals, 120 km/hour, and it is said that he is also the noblest because he warns before attacking. He really does that to avoid tiredness. When he frightens the impalas or the wildebeests away, they start running and he can identify which one is the slowest and go for it. He is a short distance athlete and he has only a few seconds to get his pray, because after a few moments running full speed, his body starts heating up and he might lose his life. With a tail like Marsupilami, they are always on top of a rock staring as if they were posing for a photo for National Geographic.

Leopards:

In spite of being the most abundant felines, they are the most difficult to see. They live on the trees and they only leave to hunt on Saturday night. They spend the rest of the week drawing from their reserves. They hang their prey from a brunch and they leave it there to munch when they get hungry. They are our personal obsession: five safaris in five different countries and they always got away.

Rhinoceros:
Rhinoceros, Nakuru Lake, Kenia
There are three types: white, black and small, although the last ones are unknown by almost everybody. The white ones are more abundant because they were introduced again from South Africa. The black ones were almost extinct because of some stupid witchcraft obsession: they said that the dust from their horns was magic. Now they learned the lesson and it’s very hard to see one.
