Routes and restaurants to enjoy your trip more than ever

Holbox, Mexico

Many times we have been asked about the best thing about this trip and we never hesitated with the answer. As impressive as the monuments we visited, or beautiful the landscapes have been, the best moment every day was around seven, when we were looking for a nice place to have a cold beer. After spending the whole day in a safari in Africa, swallowing dust in the Jordanian deserts, or avoiding crocodiles in Australia, we can assure you that there is nothing like sitting in a terrace and finish up the day there.

Some people think that happiness is in the road. Others prefer to believe that happiness is at the end of the road. The most knowledgeable people define if as the place where we wish to get or where we have already been, therefore, we can only enjoy it for a moment. For us, on the contrary, happiness is something that we like to sip slowly, savouring it, enjoying each swig, just in case this is the last time we can feel it. As if it was the best beer.

Indio Beer, Mexico Bangkok, Thailand Quilmes beer, Argentina

“Allá donde vamos triunfamos ”

Like San Miguel , but changing the brand. To clear your doubts, beer is more universal than roasted chicken, which is saying a lot. Every country we have been, we found an ale, lager or pilsner, to quench our thirst and kill our hunger. Not one but several times, because we tried all kinds of beer. Some, even, got us forever. That’s why we created the Golden, Silver and Bronze Brew Awards.

• Bronze Brew Awards goes to Modelo Especial and Indio, both from Mexico, for their ochre colour and because with them we discover “la chelada”: beer with lemon juice, two ice cubes and salt around the rim. If you add perrys sauce, black pepper and Tabasco, then you have “la michelada”, even more authentic.

• Bronze Brew Awards goes to Tusker from Kenia because they’ve got the nerve to name the beer under the elephant that killed one of the company founders 😉

• Bronze Brew Awards goes to Bucanero from Cuba, not only for the funny name, but also because it is very commendable that among all that poverty, this beer is very rich in flavour.

In Cuba, they also have Clara, local beer and much cheaper that the touristic Bucanero. Clara deserves the Worst Beer Award. It is made with papaya. This fruit, along with cilantro, are the worst flavours we ever tasted in the world!

Corona beer, Mexico

Let’s go to the Silver Brew Awards!

• Silver Brew Award goes to Tui from New Zealand for having, probably the best draught beer taste in the world. It just lacked charisma or marketing, or both, to be the number 1.

• Another Silver Brew Award goes to Quilmes from Argentina because its logo looks the best in a t-shirt. Also, its 600ml bottle is perfect and it has a first class flavour.

• Silver Brew Award goes to Kingfisher from India for being an oasis in the middle of so much poverty.

• And the last Silver Brew Award goes to the Peruvian Cuzqueña for being the real Elixir of Eternal Youth. The only beer made with water that springs from the famous Inca fountain. According to the legend, whoever drinks from this fountain will live forever!

The best beer in the world?

As a special mention, the Most Innovative Brew Award goes to “Iced-Beer” from Australia, draught beer, with a thermometer included, pouring beer at 3ºC. Please, somebody, copy this now!

And finally, the Golden Brew Award goes to the coldest, in the highest peak in the planet, Everest from Nepal. With this beer we celebrated, in the best pizza parlour in Kathmandu that our friend Lila had gotten our visas to be able to enter Tibet!

Leaving beers aside, we want to give the Platinum Brew Award to the most refreshing flavour in the world: the new container for Coca-Cola in Japan, a metal container that will change the way we drink. It’s impossible to explain, you have to try it! While you are at it, of course, have some sushi…
