Jordaan Amsterdam

Once you finish your visit to the Anne Frank House, continue down Prisengracht. At the intersection with Liliegracht you'll find the Spanjer en Van Twist, ideal for having a small beer (2.30€) on the terrace situated directly over the canal. If it's not a good time for the terrace it's better to continue a bit further up the Street and on the left side you have the  Cafe 't Smalle (Egelantiersgracht 12, just before Prinsengratch), a historic local place with Art Deco decoration.

Continue down Prinsengracht until you get to Brouwers, where you'll find the "Lekkersluis" bridge. From here you can see numerous vessels, houseboats, the drawbridge Everything on the other side of Prinsengracht is the Joordan neighborhood, formerly a working class neighborhood that has turned young and trendy.

We recommend walking around its most well known streets, like Lindengracht, Westerstraat, and the lively Tweede Tuin dwarsstraat.

If you want to eat dinner in this area in the low cost plan you, you have two great options:
  • Small World Catering (Binnen Oranjestraat 14, north of Joordan):  without a doubt the best sándwiches in the city (7.50€). We recommend the turkey with grilled peppers and cheddar cheese, and the one with spicy salami. They also let you choose your type of bread. The focaccia is spectacular. Note that they close at 7:00pm (6:00pm at the weekend) and  they aren't open on Mondays.
  • Pizzería la Perla (Tweede Tuindwarsstraat 14, a narrow little street that goes from Westerstraat to Egelantiersgracht). Incredible firewood oven pizzas (9-14€).
