From Cape Tribulation to Mission Beach:

De Cape Tribulation a Mission Beach, Australia

There are two routes for going from Cape Tribulation to Mission Bay. We recommend the interior route, but if you're tired of driving or want to spend more time in Cape Tribulation, take the more direct coastal route.

Interior route: more scenic and diverse. You can visit waterfalls along the way but it's longer and has lots of curves. Including stops, it takes 7-8 hours.
  • Drive back to the South.
  • After Mossman, you'll see a fork in the road with Captain Cook Highway to the left and Mossman Mount Mollow Road to the right. Take Mossman Mount Mollow Road.
  • Just where the curvy road ends, you'll find The Highlander Tavern. We recommend to stop there for lunch. Try their chicken schnitzel. It's delicious!
  • Continue on the road until you come to Mount Molloy first, Quaids Dam next, and finally Mareeba.
  • Take the Kennedy Highway (National Route 1) to the South.
  • Pass Atherton, and take route 25 to Malanda.
  • Pass Millaa Millaa and soon you'll find a Junction Road to Mungalli Falls. We recommend to stop there. The falls are spectacular, and in addition there are places where you can swim.
  • Come back to route 25 heading Palmerston.
  • Follow signs to A1 (Bruce Highway) and take it to the South.
  • Once in El Arish, you'll see the road to Mission Beach.
Coastal route: same route as for going from Cairns to Cape Tribulation. Go down Captain Cook Highway and pick up Bruce Highway A1 (it's the same highway but south of Cairns its name changes). Continue on this highway until El Arish, where you'll come to the road for Mission Beach. It's the most direct route and takes about 5 hours. Distance: 277km / 172mi.
