Taipei Astronomical Museum:

Taipei Astronimical Museum

Brief description: Taipei has a Museum of Astronomy that although it is a little freak (they talk about the possibility of extraterrestrial life and there is even an exhibition in which aliens appear at the end), the truth is that children love it. We really like the scale models they have of the planets, the explanations they give about the formation of stars and planets and also all the exhibits on space travel. Children can learn a lot. On the second floor they have a Kids House which is not wonderful, but the little ones can experiment for 30 min. In addition, there is the Dome Theater and the 3D Cinema . Choose one of them according to how you like the movies they show more, you have to reserve and pay at the entrance (for the little ones, the dome is better, but the older ones will prefer 3D). Movies are about 40min long. For younger children, it is better to choose the Planetarium function in the Dome Theater, it lasts only 20 minutes and is free. And finally there is the Cosmic Adventure, which is a space trip from the future that lasts 10 minutes. It's a bit silly but they like it too much.

Hours: 09.00 to 17.00. Saturdays open until 20.00. Closed on Mondays.

Cost: general admission 40 NTD (20 NTD students and free under 6 years). Dome Theater and 3D Theater 100 NTD (50 NTD children and students). Cosmic adventure 70 NTD (35NTD children and students).

How to get there: better to go by taxi or your own car (parking 30 NTD / h). If you go by public transport: MRT Shilin Station (red line). Take exit 1 and here take bus Red 12, Red 30 or Taipei Children's Amusement Park 1 -Taipei Astronomical Museum.

Note: the options for eating are not very good in the museum and its surroundings, so it is better to take something from home. If you prefer to eat there around the National Taiwan Science Education Center there are several fast food options.
